Adam Bratley of Cedarville, son of Mark Bratley and Bev and Joel Scheider, was in a horrific snowmobile accident on the evening of January 12, 2010 south of Pearl City. While Adam is lucky to have survived the accident, his road to recovery will be very long. As with any severe injury there are always mounting medical bills and it is no different in Adam's situation. A benefit is being planned since Adam does not have any medical insurance coverage after surviving cancer less than five years ago. Since Adam is unable to put weight on any of his limbs for the next six weeks, he had to be moved to FHN Skilled Care for healing and rehab on February 1, 2010. After this initial healing period, Adam will undergo months of extensive rehab to learn to walk again.
After the snowmobile accident, Adam was airlifted from the accident site to St. Anthony Medical Center where he was immediately sent into surgery to immobilize all four of his limbs since they had all suffered injuries. Adam was placed into intensive care where he underwent six surgeries in 10 days to fix his fractured limbs. His inital injuries included:
Adam doesn't currently have medical insurance coverage as insurance companies see him as "high risk" after surviving cancer less than five years ago. He is still currently paying off his portion of his medical bills from his cancer treatment. Adam's employer also does not offer insurance coverage. With mounting medical bills from several surgeries and months of rehab ahead, Adam will be facing tremendous medical expenses from this accident with no hope for insurance.
